Here at Joseph Schubach Jewelers, we proudly celebrate Valentine’s Day. And why wouldn’t we? Our business is based on love, in its various incarnations. So in dedication of St. Valentine, here are some quotes to inspire your desire.

One Killer Testimonial for Joseph Schubach Jewelers
We’re not one to toot our own horn but we just had to share this recent testimonial about our custom design work and what the process is like from the client’s point of view:
Initially I was very skeptical to make such a large purchase through an online retailer. My fiancé told me his budget and I “went to work.”
I wanted a custom ring and wanted to be sure I was working with the right team. I researched several online, (as well as brick and mortar), locations before stumbling across Schubach Jewelers. I was intrigued by their custom pieces and thought it was worth a look. I called and spoke with Beth and it took off from there!
She reassured me all along the way regarding my fears. Both Joe and Beth made me feel like my ring was the only custom project they were working on. Now that I have the ring, I couldn’t be happier!
Forget all your reservations about dealing with an online retailer for your special purchase – Schubach Jewelers is the way to go. I plan on having my matching wedding bands made there and all of my future jewelry pieces.
I truly feel like I was working with friends during this experience and recommend working with Joe and Beth to design your custom piece!
Thanks again Joe & Beth!!!!

Biggest Cut Emerald in the World
This rock is just a tad too big to be worn around the neck. And maybe just a bit out of most of our price ranges! But boy, what an amazing specimen. Even if you’re not a gem fanatic like we are, you’ll still be “green” with envy:

A Joseph Schubach Jeweler Exclusive – Our Fleur-de-lis Lightweight Stud Earrings
Joseph Schubach Jewelers ushers in a new and exclusive earring design for 2012. The Fleur-de-lis earrings are distinctly delicate and practically lightweight.
“We were looking for something antique looking as anything antique is so popular right now. We also wanted something light, delicate, and sitting low to the ear. They are very lightweight. The five prongs also are unique, normally we see 4 prongs, and some 3 prong settings now.” says designer Joseph Schubach, based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Though these earrings are new in design, the fleur-de-lis has a rich history. Fleur-de-lis means “flower of the lily” and this symbol has many meanings. Traditionally, it has been used as a symbol to represent French royalty, personifying light, life and perfection.
Other interesting facts about the fleur-de-lis:
- Joan of Arc carried a white banner that showed God blessing the French royal emblem, the fleur-de-lis, when she led French troops to victory over the English in support of the Dauphin, Charles VII, in his quest for the French throne.
- The Roman Catholic Church ascribed the lily as the special emblem of the Virgin Mary.
- Due to its three “petals,” the fleur-de-lis has also been used to represent the Holy Trinity.
- Military units, including divisions of the United States Army, have used the symbol’s resemblance to a spearhead to identify martial power and strength.
The studio will only be producing a handful of these one-of-a-kind earrings. Order as soon as possible. Perfect for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.

You Too Can Buy Liz Taylor’s Jewelry…or Can You?
It looks like the well-known and prestigious Christie’s auction house in London is no longer for the special few in attendance. Christie’s will be auctioning off several of Elizabeth Taylor’s pieces online as well as in-house. And although they’re calling it a “online-only sale”, I have a sneaking suspicion it won’t be cheap!
The two-week online sale will run concurrent with the live auctions. This marks the first time that the famed auction house will host an exclusively online addition to a private collection.
Christie’s has hand-selected more than 500 fine and costume jewelry items for the online-only sale, including exceptional Art Deco-era jewelry and an array of signed jewels by Cartier, Chanel, Christian Dior, and Ruser, among others.
Through a special engagement with the luxury fashion retailer Moda Operandi, Christie’s will offer prospective shoppers a sneak peek at a selection of highlights from the online-only sale starting Nov. 14 at shop.modaoperandi.com/ElizabethTaylor. Beginning Nov. 18 the full complement of online-only lots will be available for viewing at Christie’s website at christies.com/etonlineonly.
“To ensure the full breadth of the collection is accessible to collectors worldwide, Christie’s has taken the innovative step of adding this special, online-only component to our live auctions, so that bidders from around the world can participate in this landmark two-week-long event,” Marc Porter, chairman and president of Christie’s Americas, said in a statement.

What Exactly is Semi-Custom Design?
Sometimes it’s hard to know what you want if you don’t know your options. Semi-custom design can be an elusive concept for those who don’t know much about custom design jewelry. That’s why we created a little video starring me (the Academy Awards haven’t contacted me yet, but I keep waiting) so you can understand:

Palladium Campaign Hitting this Fall
We’ve talked about the many wonders of palladium in the past. It’s durable, light-weight, with a remarkable luster. Palladium is considered a sister-metal to platinum. though palladium is a relative newcomer in the jewelry market. Several celebrities have joined up with Palladium Alliance International to co-create a campaign extolling its virtues.
Toledo, Ohio–Palladium Alliance International (PAI) is partnering up with celebrities Pamela Anderson, Kelly Osbourne and Rose McGowan for a new campaign to promote the metal’s use in fine jewelry.
“The campaign, which will launch nationally in September, is a play on the attributes of palladium,” said Ellen Fruchtman, president of Fruchtman Marketing, which developed and is launching the campaign for PAI.
Former Baywatch star and humanitarian Pamela Anderson, E! Fashion Police host Kelly Osbourne and Charmed TV actress Rose McGowan will be featured in a series of ads that will extol the virtues of palladium jewelry.
The campaign will appear in publications including Cosmopolitan, InStyle, Glamour, W, and Elle. The PAI campaign is the largest for palladium and highlights intrinsic qualities of the metal as those matching the desires of an active, busy consumer.
In addition to print, the campaign will include extensive digital and social media aspects.
“The campaign has a lot of legs and is very consumer and media friendly,” Fruchtman said. “The celebrities we have selected are recognizable, and the headline associated with the campaign will be attention-getting.”
One of the lightest precious metals, palladium has been used in jewelry since about 1939, and is naturally white, durable and pure.

The Art Noveau Movement and Jewelry
As part of our ongoing jewelry history series, today we introduce pieces from the Art Nouveau period, with its flowing and fantastical forms and shapes.
The “Art Nouveau” (“new art”) movement was one of the first departures from classical art and design, towards a new modernism. This avant-garde movement occurred during what was known in France as the “La Belle Époque” period, or “beautiful era” of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In Germany, the Art Nouveau movement was known as the “Jugendstil,” or “youth style” arts and crafts movement, named after “Jugend,” a cultural weekly magazine founded by Georg Hirth in 1896.
The Modernism movement was primarily influenced by the radical work of Czech (Moravian) artist Alphonse Maria Mucha (1860—1939), Swiss decorative artist Eugène Samuel Grasset (1845—1917), and English illustrator Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (1872—1898) — illustrator of the “The Peacock Skirt” below, left—and the ground-breaking architectural design work of Hector Guimard (1867—1942) of Paris (Paris Métro – below, right) and the surrealist architecture of Antoni Plàcid Gaudí (1852—1926) in Barcelona, Spain.
Design motifs of the Art Nouveau movement focused heavily on the themes of nature, fantasy, and the female form, with sensual flowing shapes that simulated the organic growth that would be reminiscent of the primeval Garden of Eden.
Exotic floral motifs with animals, birds, butterfles, dragonflies, peacock feathers and marsh plants were incorporated with graceful feminine imagery or fairies, mermaids and nymphs, complete with their long manes of twisting hair.
Some of the floral motifs that were used in the Art Nouveau style were borrowed from English artist William Morris, founder of the “Arts and Crafts Movement” of the late Victorian era.
