What exactly is “bijoux”?
What is bijoux (or singularly, bijou)?
Well technically bijoux (according to Wikipedia) is “an intricate jewelry piece incorporated into clothing, or worn by itself on the body.”
So how is bijouterie any different than jewelry?
Digging a little deeper, I discovered that the difference between “bijouterie” and “jewelry” didn’t exist before Louis XIV became the king of France. Prior to that time, adornment was closer to what we consider today’s costume jewelry.
But Louis was obsessed with appearance and display and wanted to up the game of the cheaper bijouterie to match his high pedigree tastes.
This encouraged goldsmiths and jewelers throughout the country to improve the originality and quality of their pieces.
Bijouterie became jewelry.

Total Auction Sales for Jewelry, 2017
2017 was quite a successful year for the big auction houses. Both Sotheby’s and Christie’s focused aggressively on fine jewelry sales…and the year-end numbers highlight how the dedicated work paid off.
The two auction houses combined for more than $1.1 billion in sales, with Christie’s achieving $556.7 million and Sotheby’s $551.3 million.
Both auction houses expanded its jewelry offerings with an increased eCommerce presence and with special sales held throughout the year.
And while Sotheby’s fell behind Christie’s in total jewelry auction sales, it did spearhead the sale of the world auction record for any gem or jewel: the CTF Pink Star.
The CTF Pink Star is a 59.60-carat internally flawless fancy vivid pink diamond which sold for more than $71.1 million ($1.19 million per carat) at Sotheby’s Hong Kong on April 4, 2017.
Let’s see what surprises lie ahead for 2018!

When you’re busy, self-admonishing voices can’t keep up
Life is one big unfurling process. No one is ever quite sure what’s up around the bend. Amidst it all, we’re supposed to be learn to love ourselves (as well as others) and actualize our potential to its fullest extent–that’s a pretty serious to-do list for one lifetime!
So what do you do if you’re not “there” yet when it comes to self-confidence and self-pride? What if you’re in the process of learning to like yourself but still can’t help but notice that extra weight you put on over the winter or those damn gray hairs popping up all over your head?
Do you ignore those negative voices? As many of you already know, that’s generally not super successful.
Why not trying diverting that energy instead?
Consider these words:
“When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.” – Jean Shinoda Bole
So stop trying to silence those annoying, chiding internal voices. Instead, explore the idea of nourishing your soul and keeping engaged in a fuller manner so those voices simply don’t matter as much.
Look, you can’t force self-esteem where it doesn’t exist. So why not simply move forward and get things done anyway? Instead of buying another skin product for that “imperfect” skin, go for a walk instead. Or call your friend. Or bake a healthy dish. Shift the focus onto something real and actionable.
Think of those internal self-doubting voices as annoying neighbors. You could rail against them all of the time or you could simply recognize that you’re neighbors kinda stink but you’re too busy to care!
