Black Astrum is out with customized Signature Card range. Meant for high profile people across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, the Swiss metal business cards come studded with diamonds. Said to be a “highly distinctive symbol of status and wealth”, one set of the cards feature over 30 carats of diamonds.

Since its exclusively customized to a client’s specifications, the cost of making varies. However, the company states that the average selling price per card is about the £1000 ($1,500), and it is sold in sets of 25, 50 and 100 cards.

Sufian Khawaja, Black Astrum’s concept director says, “We’ve had several enquiries from American celebrities and international businessmen, however our cards are offered by invitation only, reflecting our desire to serve only the most premier individuals”. The cards were originally created as a one-off project for a wealthy Middle Eastern family.

A client of ours had the following advice about fashion that I’d like to share with you. (It’s paraphrased loosely, but you’ll get the gist.)

I’ve never been able to keep up with fashion. I knew that when I was a teenager. I guess because I was always a comfort queen, so I couldn’t bear clothes that pinched me or felt too tight. But I wanted to be fashionable like everyone else. That’s when my mother suggested a few key pieces of jewelry. Her take? Some nice jewelry pulls an outfit together, whatever you’re wearing. At first I didn’t believe her. I thought I had to keep up with the fashion race.

Then I finally took her advice in my late 20’s. I scaled down my clothing until I owned a small closetful of key pieces. Then I bought some nice pieces (with my mom’s overlooking eye). It didn’t happen overnight but now, I feel like my wardrobe is simpler and my jewelry does the talking. Plus, I’m so attached to the jewelry – moreso than I’ve felt about clothing for the most part. It’s something I look forward to passing on to my daughters one day.

Antique/Vintage/Retro & New Combinations

Absolutely everyone loves the look of antique, vintage and retro jewelry and now the most recent trend is to thoughtfully mix these and make a new and imaginative item as one. Jewelry designers, say, Elizabeth Locke and Roberto Coin are beautifully infusing their new concepts and marrying them to antique and vintage that seems to be and the resulting styles are perfect.

As opposed to the 60s when the huge brooches and pins are the key component in one’s individual adornment. Now is the necklace. The bib necklace started to grow in the hearts of many at least 3 years ago and evidently, these are still very influential today and in fact evolved to different stand-out pieces like over-the-top multi-chain neckpieces, fabric-made, etc.

Fake & Genuine Pearls

Pearls yell pure classicism. For centuries they have been hugely desired for their natural class and exclusive appeal. Used in the Victorian Era, pearls have evolved from simple one-strand to numerous layers and layers of beautifully hand crafted balls. Even Cartier has revived their classic styling in a lot more eye catching pearl with diamonds as added details. Pearls can be worn with edgy metals and other ornaments to have that feel of “warrior princess” but still exuding glamour.

According to Bloomberg News, gold prices continue to rise, after recent news about Iran’s nuclear development:

Gold futures headed for the biggest gain in 10 weeks on increased demand from investors after reports that Iran produced its first nuclear fuel rod and as the dollar weakened. Silver also gained.

A domestically-made rod was inserted into the core of Tehran’s atomic research reactor after performance tests, the Iranian Students News Agency reported yesterday. The dollar fell against the euro on signs that manufacturing is expanding in the U.S. and China. Blackstone Group LP’s Byron Wien, who had correctly predicted last year’s gain in gold, said bullion will rally 15 percent in 2012 to $1,800 an ounce.

“Fear trade is back because of Iran,” Adam Klopfenstein, a market strategist at Archer Financial Services Inc. in Chicago, said in a telephone interview. “Also, we are seeing buying across commodities because of the weaker dollar.”
