Wishes for Wildlife and our Sea Anemone Ring
What a wonderful weekend in Arizona. When our jewelry meets a good cause, its a very fulfilling feeling. We were lucky enough to take part in this wonderful event as well as add a piece to the silent auction.
The Wishes for Wildlife benefit is designed to answer the community’s need for quality wildlife rehabilitation, environmental education, and conservation services.
Liberty Wildlife’s mission is to “nurture the nature” of Arizona. Founded in 1981, Liberty Wildlife has nurtured over 71,000 birds, mammals and reptiles. Together we can help thousands more as they struggle with urban encroachment into their native habitat and rapidly changing environment. Please join us in preserving our unique wildlife heritage for future generations.
Below is our contribution to the Silent Auction portion of the benefit: a sea anemone ring with a blue topaz in the center.

Unusual Wedding Traditions – Blackening the Bride
When I read about this ritual, I had to ask myself (before I read the answer) what could tarring and feathering a spouse-to-be possibly symbolize? And how the heck do they get the tar off? Well apparently its not real tar and the symbolism is actually quite interesting.
Anyway more on this dirty little ritual:
Tar and feathers, anyone? For Scotland’s tradition of blackening of the bride, which has expanded to now include the groom, absolutely anything goes. This includes tars, feathers, pillow stuffing, molasses, dirt, rotting food, sour milk, flour, smashed garbanzo beans, sushi — you name it and you got it, you can certainly pile it on. The blackening takes place prior to the wedding, which at least spares the tux and wedding dress, but any time or location is fair game. Once blackened, the lucky newlywed-to-be is paraded through the streets or tethered to a tree as said “friends” announce the wedding. Blackening supposedly prepares the person for any humiliation that life has yet to bring, as nothing could be as humiliating as being blackened.

Diamonds on your Finger…tips
Seen on the famous fingertips of Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Kelly Osbourne [above], Azature Pogosian’s black diamond nail polish wowed even the most fashion-jaded. Unfortunately, at $250,000 a bottle, most of us couldn’t get our hands on it. Until now.
The brand that brought us that very special black diamond lacquer has spent the months since figuring out how to deliver that level of luxe to the masses. Meet the Azature Black Diamond Collection, by the same LA-based fine jewelry designer who created the original look.
While the original bottle (there’s just one) was chock full of 267 carats of faceted black diamonds, WWD writes that each bottle in the new line will feature a small, black pavé diamond dropped in by hand. The designer, Azature Pogosian’s vison was “to have the talons of the masses dripping in diamonds,” the trade writes. It’s no surprise, then, that the craftsman, whose baubles have bedecked the likes of Rihanna and Beyoncé is known as “the Diamond King”.
A break from Pogosian’s love of black (and white!) diamonds, the colors in this collection are inspired by different types of diamonds, and will include red, pink, champagne, blue, green and canary. The permanent collection is still being expanded, and later this spring we can expect a launch that leans on the softer side, with lilac and gray among other pastel shades.
What ever happened to that one and only quarter-mill bottle? It’s still on view at Selfridges in London. “[It] has not sold yet,” Pogosian told WWD. If you blew all your bucks on that $91,500 Hermès T-shirt , or the diamond-dusted paint is still generally way too expensive, you can now mock the sparkly mani minus quite a few zeros. The new polishes are also available at Selfridges, as well as Kitson, Harvey Nichols Saudi Arabia, Ron Robinson, and Ron Herman Japan.
