  • Total Auction Sales for Jewelry, 2017

    January 16, 2018

    The-Pink-Star-1200x1695

2017 was quite a successful year for the big auction houses. Both Sotheby’s and Christie’s focused aggressively on fine jewelry sales…and the year-end numbers highlight how the dedicated work paid off.

    According to Forbes:

The two auction houses combined for more than $1.1 billion in sales, with Christie’s achieving $556.7 million and Sotheby’s $551.3 million.

Both auction houses expanded its jewelry offerings with an increased eCommerce presence and with special sales held throughout the year.

And while Sotheby’s fell behind Christie’s in total jewelry auction sales, it did spearhead the sale of the world auction record for any gem or jewel: the CTF Pink Star.

The CTF Pink Star is a 59.60-carat internally flawless fancy vivid pink diamond which sold for more than $71.1 million ($1.19 million per carat) at Sotheby’s Hong Kong on April 4, 2017.

Let’s see what surprises lie ahead for 2018!

  • When you’re busy, self-admonishing voices can’t keep up

    January 14, 2018

    images

Life is one big unfurling process. No one is ever quite sure what’s up around the bend. Amidst it all, we’re supposed to be learn to love ourselves (as well as others) and actualize our potential to its fullest extent–that’s a pretty serious to-do list for one lifetime!

So what do you do if you’re not “there” yet when it comes to self-confidence and self-pride? What if you’re in the process of learning to like yourself but still can’t help but notice that extra weight you put on over the winter or those damn gray hairs popping up all over your head?

Do you ignore those negative voices? As many of you already know, that’s generally not super successful.

Why not trying diverting that energy instead?

    Consider these words:

“When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.” – Jean Shinoda Bole

So stop trying to silence those annoying, chiding internal voices. Instead, explore the idea of nourishing your soul and keeping engaged in a fuller manner so those voices simply don’t matter as much.

Look, you can’t force self-esteem where it doesn’t exist. So why not simply move forward and get things done anyway? Instead of buying another skin product for that “imperfect” skin, go for a walk instead. Or call your friend. Or bake a healthy dish. Shift the focus onto something real and actionable.

Think of those internal self-doubting voices as annoying neighbors. You could rail against them all of the time or you could simply recognize that you’re neighbors kinda stink but you’re too busy to care!

  • Jewelry Layering – Creating the Delicate Layer Look

    January 12, 2018

Layering necklaces can be a complicated process for some. Where do you start? Which pieces to use and how many? What necklace simply won’t play nice with the others?

This video addresses your layering questions (hint: start from the bottom up):

  • Millions worth of jewelry worn at Golden Globes…and more fashion factoids

    January 10, 2018

    Golden Globes red carpet

With this week’s Golden Globes behind us, we decided to take a minute to look at the financial big picture of the award ceremonies.

Red carpet functions like the Golden Globes are multi-million dollar enterprises. And because of the black fashion theme this year (representing solidarity behind the #metoo and #timesup movement), high-end jewelry stood out in a major way.

More than 20 million dollars worth of watches and jewelry was worn by some of Hollywood’s finest. In particular, diamond jewelry was the scene stealer for most of the women.

Harry Winston was one of the most-worn brands. This included Kate Hudson and Salma Hayek who wore more than $5 million in Winston diamonds. Other Winston wearers included Emilia Clarke, Claire Foy, Viola Davis, Helen Mirren and Lily James.

Chopard, Piaget and Tiffany’s were runners-ups.

So while we missed colorful Golden Globes of years passed, we couldn’t help but note how black really accentuated accessory choices.

  • “. . . .it’s absolutely stunning. Thank you for all the work you did to bring it to life!”

    January 8, 2018

Hi Margie and Happy New Year!

I popped the question to K before midnight and she absolutely loved the ring!  Fantastic work!
We might need it resized a 1/4 size smaller as it feels just a bit loose on her finger.  Maybe at the end of the week we can bring it in to take care of that. (Thursday afternoon possibly) Otherwise, it’s absolutely stunning.  Thank you for all the work you did to bring it to life!

  • The Golden Globes and the Power of Black

    January 8, 2018

    IMG_5145

If you’re still processing last night’s Golden Globes awards, we’re right there with you. Between the quasi-political speeches (President Winfrey?) and glimpses of this year’s best films, there wasn’t nearly the focus on the fashion that we like.

But that’s fine. We get it. There’s a lot going on in today’s world and fashion can’t always be given the primary focus.

Besides, there was one fashion statement that simply couldn’t be overlooked. Most of the women in attendance wore all black.

    According to Newsweek:

“Women in the entertainment industry made a statement at the 2018 Golden Globes on Sunday by wearing all-black dresses on the red carpet. Amid the #MeToo movement and as a protest against sexual harassment in the workplace, women expressed their solidarity through their fashion, transforming “MeToo” into “Time’s Up.”
Fashion has been tied into making political statements for eons so this is nothing new. But in an era of upheaval and change, even fashion statements carry a lot of weight.
So yes, maybe the “dazzle” was put aside for an evening (though of course, these women looked amazing and wore some incredible jewelry) but the end game makes it more than worthwhile.
