  • From The Archives – Custom Made Cufflinks

One of our very good friends gave us visitation rights to a couple of pair of cuff links we made for him a number of years ago. We’re working on some custom cuff links for another friend of ours and we needed some measurements from these.  Both pair are original designs of ours.

This pair features Tahitian and white pearls along with blue sapphires in 18kt yellow gold.

This pair features white gold bamboo and hand carved (Italian carved, Arizona material) turquoise stones.

  • Techno Futuristic Jewelry by Paola Mirai

Often we reflect on the history of jewelry on our blog. It’s easy to see the connectivity between a vintage necklace and what we continue to wear today. But what does the future of jewelry hold? How does technology influence fashion, for instance?

Designer Paola Mirai peers into that space-age world:

We’ve seen our share of jewelry made from old circuit boards, but none as luxe-looking as those by Paola Mirai. The Milan-based art director, designer, and self-described “alchemical experimenter” suspends castoff computer parts, clock springs, watch cogs, and other technological detritus in a colorless—and home-brewed—resin known as “orotrasparente.” The result is a series of brooches, bracelets, cuff links, and rings with a lighter-than-air quality, featuring high-tech components that appear to float just above the body.

  • Moissanite for the Holidays

Remember the days when diamond alternatives like cubic zirconia seemed so…blech? It simply seemed cheap next to the appeal of a real, dazzling diamond.

    Enter moissanite

But things have changed since then. Even cubic zirconia has come along way. Then moissanite entered the market and everyone in the jewelry design world stopped to take notice. Nowhere before had a diamond alternative been so close to a naturally mined diamond, even exceeding it in areas such as fiery brilliance. This lab-grown diamond would also appeal to the eco-conscious fashionistas in Hollywood who were becoming increasingly aware of the dangers of diamond mining.

    A holiday diamond alternative

This holiday, think beyond the old world diamond mindset. Show that you care with a diamond alternative that is a clear winner in today’s world. Be proud to say, “No, it’s not a diamond. It’s better. It’s moissannite.”

  • 9 Carat Blue Diamond Found in Botswana

Couldn’t help but stop and say, “Wow!” after seeing this latest discovery in Botswana:

Lucara Diamond Corp. has recovered an ultra-rare 9.46 ct. Type II blue diamond at its Karowe mine in Botswana.

The diamond will be sold at the mine’s upcoming tender on Nov. 26.

William Lamb, Lucara’s president and CEO, tells JCK the company believes the stone will polish out to a fancy blue, with VVS1 or better clarity.
