How to Have a Tranquil Christmas
We decided to take a holiday break from our jewelry-related blog posts and hopefully impart some gems of wisdom so you too can have a relaxing, enriching holiday.
1. Take some alone time. Many of us feel frayed around the edges because of a wide range of family (or friend) dynamics. It’s perfectly alright to take a 15-minute walk or sit quietly outside just to breathe in the air and center yourself.
2. Give your love away. The holidays are a time to share of ourselves. But often, we become swept away in a whirlwind of activity. Hug a little longer. Give that compliment that’s been quietly residing in your mind. Smile when someone is talking to you. Listen a little more. This kind of giving instantly gives back…and it is what the holidays are about, after all!
3. Take some spiritual time. Most of us are very concerned when it comes to our physical well-being or our mental health, but often our spiritual state goes gravely overlooked. What can you do to balance your spiritual energy this holiday? A few minutes of meditation in the morning? A beautiful piece of music? A prayer? No matter what you believe in, give a moment to believe in something. Feed your spirit.
Here at Joseph Schubach Jewelers, we wish you the best of holidays. We are grateful to the numerous clients that have entered our lives over the years. Thank you!

How the Tennis Bracelet Got its Name
When asking around the office yesterday, only a few knew the story behind the tennis bracelet’s name. (I must confess, I was one of them.) But apparently, it has to do with one famous tennis player and a faulty clasp:
Evert was wearing a George Bedewi-designed bracelet sparkling with an inline string of individually-set diamonds when the clasp snapped, sending the precious piece of jewelry scattering across the court. The six-time U.S. Open champion requested a pause in play to search for it.
The image of the “Ice Maiden” coolly recovering the missing ice on court resonated well beyond the baseline, and since then bracelets containing an inline array of diamonds have been called “tennis bracelets.” Their clasps seem to be more secure these days, as tennis bracelets have spread from the court to the red carpet as an accessory to the stars.

Zales Most Brilliant Diamond Claim Put to Test
Ads are often subjective. We’re used to hearing that one product or service is the best, the fastest, the cheapest, etc. But Zales is up against a lawsuit where those claims may be put to the test:
A federal judge in Ohio will weigh in Monday on a legal tussle with ramifications for the diamond world: whether the Zales jewelry chain should be allowed to advertise that its rocks are the brightest.
Sterling Jewelers Inc., a unit of Signet Jewelers Ltd., SIG +1.74% which also owns the Kay Jewelers and Jared the Galleria of Jewelry chains, has filed a lawsuit accusing Zale Corp. ZLC -2.63% of false advertising for claiming its Celebration Fire stones are the “most brilliant diamonds in the world.”
Sterling, based in Akron, Ohio, wants to force Zale to scrap a multimillion-dollar ad campaign as it heads into one of the busiest sales week of the year; on Monday, the judge will consider Sterling’s request for a preliminary injunction. The company also is seeking millions of dollars in damages from Zale, which is based in Irving, Texas.
The Federal Trade Commission allows advertising that makes subjective claims, according to an agency spokeswoman. But a spokesman for Signet, David Bouffard, said the brilliance of a diamond can be “systematically, reliably and scientifically measured” and shouldn’t fall under those protections.

“Joe Schubach has been the only one that provided sufficient detailed information and personalized service to warrant a purchase from me.”
I have ALWAYS had reservation about buying a gem stones over the internet. I have seen thousands of offerings. Joe Schubach has been the only one that provided sufficient detailed information and personalized service to warrant a purchase from me. The skill in setting the stone was superb. Joe’s goldsmith left ZERO marks on the stones table and crown. Brilliant work. I would buy again with confidence.
