Pantone’s Spring 2012 Color Trend

We’ve often given you, our reader, a sneak peek into the upcoming season’s color schemes. And as the skies darken earlier and rain turns into snow in many part of the country, looking at Spring’s colors-to-be can be a bright spot to your day!

The spring 2012 color trend is influenced by “renewed energy, optimism and the promise of a brighter day”.

The colors for this season reflect a variety of moods with a mixture of sunny brights, light-hearted pastels, and gentle neutrals.

Here are the ten Pantone colors for Spring 2012:

Spring 2012 Color Palette

Top row, left to right:

Cabaret (an intense rose)

Driftwood (a weathered blend of gray and beige)

Bellflower (an ornamental purple)

Cockatoo (a light hearted blue-green)

Tangerine Tango (a juicy orange).

Bottom row, left to right:

Margarita (a tangy yellow-green)

Sweet Lilac (a gentle pink-lilac)

Solar Power (a bold cheery yellow)

Starfish (a warm-weather neutral)

Sodalite Blue (a seaside classic blue).

Contrasting or Matching Jewelry – Which One?

Before you go hit the “matches” button, think again. I stumbled across this piece this morning that really exemplifies the importance of contrasting jewelry and fashion. So today, when you’re opening up your jewelry box, pick the contrasting piece and give it a spin.

These two mannequins in a store window kindly demonstrated the difference between jewelry that matches your outfit (on the left) and jewelry that contrasts with it (on the right):

Even though the gal on the left is wearing more jewelry (a double-strand necklace plus a bracelet and ring), you can hardly see her jewels at all.

Meanwhile, the fashion-savvy gal on the right wears just one piece of jewelry (a single-strand necklace), but it really makes a visual impact – even from farther away:

Now if only these two gals had good heads on their shoulders, the fashion-savvy one on the right could drop a hint to her friend on the left about accessorizing.

Last week, we showcased some of the hottest pieces worn at the Emmy Awards. But we’re not done yet! Check out some of these dazzling, up-close shots from the Emmy’s and beyond:

Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester wore Van Cleef & Arpels’ “Two Butterfly” ring (below), a between-the-finger ring featuring round diamonds and yellow sapphires set in 18-karat yellow and white gold.

Marisol Nichols (below), of the TV show 24, wore a Katerina Maxine 18-karat white gold ring with a nearly 9-carat rubellite and diamonds ($18,400) to an Emmys party in Los Angeles.

Cote de Pablo, from the TV series NCIS, donned Brumani’s Baobab 18-karat yellow gold ring (below) with brown diamonds, aquamarine and pink tourmaline ($12,001) to an awards event in California this month.

Mad Men’s Jessica Paré (below) accessorized with an Arunashi blue moonstone and black diamond “Mushroom” ring ($7,650) for an Emmys party in Los Angeles.

Thor’s Jaimie Alexander wore a Victor Velyan ring (below) with spessartite garnet ($6,140) to a soiree in West Hollywood.

House’s Jennifer Morrison (below) wore KumKum’s Paradise night black zircon and sterling silver ring ($599) outside of the Jimmy Kimmel Live studios in Los Angeles this month.
